Following Directions

Our little Alicia is beginning to understand our commands and directions.  We are so thrilled when we tell her to do something and she complies!  Take a look at the video and see how our little pudding is growing up and developing: motionbox.com/videos/d49edcb61111e55c.

Alicia’s Dedication Service

The word dedication means to consecrate or the act of setting apart people or things for the purposes of serving God. In the Old Testament we see how Hannah prayed for a child and promised God that the child, Samuel, would be given to the Lord all the days of his life (1 Samuel 1:11, 28).  In the New Testament we see how Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple to present Him to the Lord (Luke 2:22).

Like these parents, Louis and I also wanted to acknowledge God’s sovereignty in our lives and in the life of our daughter, Alicia Leilani Randall, by committing her to God in a dedication ceremony on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the 11 am worship service at our church, West Angeles Church of God in Christ.

After the wonderful praise and worship portion of the service, Alicia’s godparents, Terri and Jerry Johnson; grandparents, Barbara Kelley Lindsey and Ray Lindsey, Jr.; and uncle, Darius Nathaniel Randall accompanied us to the altar for the dedication.  Our pastor, Bishop Charles E. Blake prayed over our child and asked God to bless her.  Two other beautiful children were also dedicated along with Alicia.

Bishop Blake preached a dynamic message that moved the entire congregation to shouts, yells, and praises.  In fact, the spirit was so heavy that it moved the heart of Ray Lindsey, Jr., who answered to the call of salvation and walked down the aisle for prayer.  His son-in-law, Louis, supported him by escorting him to the altar.  Although Ray’s wife, Janice has been attending West Angeles for over a year, this is Ray’s first visit.  In the last year or so, he has been visiting different churches and eventually we pray that he find a good home.

After church, we drove 3 minutes down Crenshaw Blvd. to the Sizzler in the Baldwin Hills Shopping Center.  Afterwards, we changed clothes and carpooled and caravaned to the Santa Monica Pier.  Louis took the baby for a bicycle ride while some of us enjoyed the beautiful sunset, ate cotten candy, and rode the ferris wheel.

The weather was perfect, the fellowship was warm, and the event was topped off with my dad going to the altar for prayer and salvation.

It was a blessed day.

4th of July 2008 in California

First, giving honor to God for another day and thanking Him for his abundant grace, mercy, and blessings. We thank Him for all of our elders who are growing in their winter years, namely John Henry Arrington, Jr., 85 years old, who is currently recovering in the hospital. We also thank God and pray for the brave troops who have served and who are still serving in the military as we celebrate this country’s Independence Day of 2008.

Friday, July 4, 2008 was a beautiful, fun-filled day spent with family and friends. Each year, Louis and I throw a 4th of July potluck. One of the perks of living near the infamous Rose Bowl located in Pasadena, California is the opportunity to see the annual fireworks show for free!

Evites were sent out to all family and friends to bring kids, bathing suits, lawn chairs, and blankets to help celebrate the 232nd birthday of our country. Ray Lindsey, Jr. made his famous barbeque and guests bought their family favorite side dishes. After everyone ate, played games, swam, and danced, we sat it in the front yard, caught the sunset, and then watched the fireworks show. The spectacular fireworks show started at 9 pm. After the fireworks show, the party continued as the kids went back to the pool area to swim, adults did some more talking and laughing, and Louis cut everyone nice chunks of watermelon.

Notable guests include Barbara Lindsey; Adora & Chris Roberson; Ray & Janice Lindsey; Louis, Ayesha, & Sweet Pea Randall; and Monique McIntyre.

Trip to Gullah Land

Last week, June 14-18, 2008, Louis, Alicia, and I visited South Carolina. We stayed in a beautiful bed and breakfast, complete with down comforters, antique collectibles, and southern food. The highlight of our trip, though, was the trip to the Gullah Museum. Here, we learned about the origination of rice cultivation and of the African-Americans that live in South Carolina’s Sandy Island. The lessons were very interesting. This was our family’s first plane ride together. Sweet Pea was a bit sour on the plane. She didn’t particularly like the confinement and the unfamiliar atmosphere. My baby was elated when we came back home to her own stomping grounds.

Christopher & Adora Roberson

chrisndoetree.jpg momndoe.jpg chrisandadora2007.jpg

These are the newlyweds, Christopher & Adora Roberson. Adora is the grandaughter of Ray Lindsey, Sr. and Olive (Arrington) Lindsey and the daughter of Ray Lindsey, Jr. and Barbara (Kelley Lindsey). They happy couple lives in Chino, California. For Adora’s birthday (December 3rd), we went to brunch at El Torito’s. The food was absolutely delicious! That evening, we visited the newlywed’s new home. While the ladies sat by the fireplace, watched movies, played with Sweet Leilani, and had egg nog and chocolate chip cookies, the guys sat on the patio and played dominoes. It was a beautifully crispy evening. The couple were gracious hosts and it was wonderful seeing them put their first star on top of their first Christmas tree. Jesus is the reason for the season…

Alicia Leilani’s First Christmas

pc168822l.jpg

God is good and worthy to be praised. This will by my baby’s first Christmas. Alicia Leilani was born April 21, 2007 to Louis and Ayesha Randall. Alicia’s newest developments are banging her hands on any type of flat surface and crawling backwards. Little by little, her daddy is helping her to crawl forward. It’s awesome watching her every change. God is awesome.
